Countering the Libertarian Argument (11:28 – 18:13)

  • “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair.
    • It is a story about 1900s Chicago and the abuses of the food industry
    • There is a passage, I remember from high school, about the animal parts that were recovered from the drains being packaged and sold as canned meat.

  • We the People Created Governments, delegating this responsibility,
    • Protect us from enemies both foreign and domestic
    • Secure our food and water supply
      • Our tap water should be cleaner than Evian.
      • Here in Norway the Water is so clean, that coco cola doesn’t even filter it. It’s the only country where they don’t filter the water.
    • Moreover, anti-trust, ensuring free flow of information and marketplace competition falls under the government’s prevue
  • The Government is an extension ourselves, acting as a counter-force to food monopolies.

Wrap Up: (18:14 – 21:08)

  • To fix the health care crisis, we need to ask ourselves what is making us sick.
  • Regulation and taxation on crappy food and sugary beverages is the right thing to do. This is where we need socialism.
  • Unrealized American potential.
  • Health is wealth.
