Friday Humor: Smuggling and Black Markets Lead to Democracy

Finding Inspiration from North Korea:

It took me some time, but I finally found a truly inspiring speech from the Oslo Freedom Forum, albeit from the past. Yeonmi Park, a young girl who escaped from North Korea, discusses how her family had a one up, working in the black market.

They had access to contraband like South Korean movies, food, and knowledge of the outside world, inadvertently readying them for democracy. People suitable for life in a democratic nation are not those who follow the rules but those who can decide which rules to follow to their advantage.
