My late Grandfather (Dehradun, India) told us that India was better off under the British. They offered infrastructure, a common language, literacy and most of all: order. The population was 318 million people in 1947. Today it is over 1.3 billion.
Today India is a mess. Politicians are running on local agendas, putting their state language ahead of the national one and English, taking the country backward and not forward. The IT sector only accounts for 5% of the economy and doesn’t deal with the demographic issues.
Meanwhile, complete deforestation and extinction of tigers and elephants are a very real possibility in this generation.
